🗓 Thursday, 19 March 2026
⏰ 10:00–12:00
📍 Arnold Bergstraesser Institut (ABI)
Windausstr.16, 79110 Freiburg, & via zoom
As of 11 March 2026, Chile has a new government with an openly far-right orientation. While democratically elected, President José Antonio Kast has expressed support for aspects of Pinochet’s brutal military dictatorship (1973-1990). This development forms part of a wider authoritarian drive in the Americas and beyond.
The session will open a space to collectively reflect on and discuss how to make sense of these transformations and their implications for democracy, governance, and political contestation.
Registration is not obligatory, but a short confirmation email to fabricio.rodriguez@abi.uni-freiburg.de (Dr Fabricio Rodríguez) is appreciated.
