Joshua Akintayo completed his PhD in Politics and International Relations at the University of Kent. His research for the Postcolonial Hierarchies in Peace and Conflict project examines how the coexistence of multiple South–South security partnerships reshapes (counter-)terrorism and security governance in Nigeria. The project asks whether the growing involvement of multiple state and regional actors in Nigeria’s security landscape challenges, reconfigures, or reproduces postcolonial hierarchies in security governance, and how these interactions transform everyday security practices and authority.
More broadly, Joshua’s research focuses on security, (counter-)terrorism, Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (PCVE), conflict-related sexual violence, and peacebuilding. Taking a critical perspective, he examines both top-down and bottom-up dimensions of these issues, with particular attention to their governance, practices, transformations, and consequences in Nigeria.
