David G. Miranda develops an interdisciplinary analysis examining the complex relationship between body, public space, and artivism during the Chilean Social Uprising (2019-2020), a phenomenon that transformed the city into a corporeal extension of social protest. Through a comprehensive study of over 300 photographic records documenting urban artistic interventions and feminist artivist practices, David G. Miranda analyzes the metamorphosis of walls and public spaces into living testimonies of resistance and political dispute. The findings reveal that these artistic-activist manifestations served a dual function: on the one hand, they unveiled the profound crisis in the state-citizenship relationship, and on the other, they catalyzed the emergence of new political subjectivities and processes of urban space resignification. The central argument maintains that the city, conceptualized as an ‚other‘ social body, constituted itself as a territory of symbolic confrontation where citizen demands and hegemonic power structures converged, exposing a deep political crisis and generating new imaginaries of social transformation into an emblematic city of neoliberal (dis)order that stretches beyond Latin America.
Bio
David G. Miranda works on contemporary political issues from social, educational, and cultural perspectives, with an interdisciplinary focus on Latin America. David is a Professor at the Universidad de Playa Ancha, coordinates the Joint Doctorate in Education (Universidad de Los Lagos / Universidad de Playa Ancha / Universidad de Antofagasta), and leads the Latin American Network on Education, Politics, and Interculturality (FOVI 240274). David G. Miranda has presented at major international forums such as the IPSA World Congress and CELAC–EU Academic Summit, and has published in collaboration with institutions including Spain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Institut des Amériques, and the University of Guadalajara.
